A highly recommended and freeware password manager.

PassPort is a free password manager letting you manage passwords securely. It stores passwords in a database which is then locked behind one master key making it very secure (depending on what you choose as your master password!). It makes remembering passwords easy, because you only have to remember one password in order to access all the others in the database. The database its self is secured with encryption algorithms. PassPort 1.1 also includes a secure password generator with drag-and-drop.

Since it's a freeware program, we highly recommend it over many paid solutions out there. With the unavailability currently of many Firefox toolbars, it might be the right time to switch over to a full password manager instead of relying on things like Google's auto-form-filler (currently unsupported in the newest version of Firefox).

Accessing PassPort is easy, since it rests in the system tray until you want to use it. It also supports automatic filling of online forms, making it one of handiest password managers which involves very little effort on your part.

Features of PassPort

  • Built-in customizable password generator.
  • Easy form filling
  • Easy to understand and fast user interface.
  • Portable version included
  • Quick access through the tray icon.
  • Strong AES and 3DES encryption.

Compatibility and License

PassPort has been released under the open source GPL license on Windows from password software. The license provides the options to freely download, install, run and share this program without any restrictions. The source code for PassPort should be freely available and modifications are certainly permitted as well as the option to inspect the software.

What version of Windows can PassPort run on?

PassPort can be used on a computer running Windows 11 or Windows 10. Previous versions of the OS shouldn't be a problem with Windows 8 and Windows 7 having been tested. It runs on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems with no dedicated 64-bit download provided.
